Nana Manga

Nana is a still ongoing manga series by Yazawa Ai. It runs in the monthly manga magazine Cookie. At the present time, fifteen manga volumes have been been released. It is currently being released in the United States by Viz. It's running in the new monthly shoujo manga magazine, Shojo Beat. At the present time, two manga volumes have been released domestically. Images of all of the manga covers can be found at the bottom of this page.

The following summary is taken from the Shojo Beat website:
Nana Komatsu is a young woman who's endured an unending string of boyfriend problems. Moving to Tokyo, she's hoping to take control of her life and put all those messy misadventures behind her. She's looking for love and she's hoping to find it in the big city.

Nana Osaki, on the other hand, is cool, confident and focused. She swaggers into town and proceeds to kick down the doors to Tokyo's underground punk scene. She's got a dream and won't give up until she becomes Japan's No. 1 rock'n'roll superstar.

This is the story of two 20-year-old women who share the same name. Even though they come from completely different backgrounds, they somehow meet and become best friends. The world of Nana is a world exploding with sex, music, fashion, gossip and all-night parties.

At the present time volume 13 is probably my favorite though my favorite chapters are the second prologue and thirteen. I'm a bit disappointed currently with Viz's translation. The editor seems to be trying to make the manga sound young and hip, but instead seems to be making it sound a bit silly and outdated. An example being the fact that Hachi keeps saying stuff like, 'Oh man.' Hopefully this will change, as I'm finding it more than a little annoying.
