AboutThis fanlisting was adopted from Laura in August 2004. Kaikan Phrase is my favorite shoujo manga series and I'm thrilled to be able to run the fanlisting for it! ♥
Kaikan Phrase is a 17 volume long shoujo manga series by Shinjo Mayu (the Queen of Shoujo Smut). It was origninally published in the bi-monthly shoujo manga magazine Sho-Comi. An special extra manga volume with side stories was also released along with an adorable side story in the final volume of Love Celeb (another Shinjo series that Sakuya has a cameo; both Sakuya and Aine are in the side story in the final volume). A 44 episode anime was also made based on the manga, though it differs quite a bit (more on that shortly). The manga volumes have had three seperate releases in Japan, the original manga tanks, a deluxe edition (consisting of six volumes) and most recently, the original volumes were rereleased with new (and uber shiny) cover art. In the US, the manga series is licensed by Viz and all volumes including the special extra volume have been released under the title Sensual Phrase. Kaikan Phrase tells the story of Yukimura Aine, an ordinary Japanese high school girl who meets by chance, Ookouchi Sakuya, the front man of the band Lucifer. Sakuya is a hard man to resist and in no time, Aine has been swept up in his world of celebrity and music. Kaikan Phrase is a wonderful shoujo series filled with much smut, angsty, and romantic moments. All of the characters are wonderful (Shinjo always makes really wonderful secondary characters and her females are fabulous though they rarely get any fandom love) and each volume leaves you hungry for more. The anime series focuses more on the band and how they make it into the music industry with Sakuya and Aine's relationship taking a backseat (Aine isn't even introduced until half way into the anime). The music in the anime is amazing, but I personally prefer the manga series because of all the wonderful Sakuya/Aine goodness. I do love the anime though, because while different, it is still really enjoyable.
