So you want to know a bit about the series Inuyasha? The story essentially starts when Higurashi Kagome, a 15-year-old girl from modern-day Japan is pulled into her family's shrine's well by a huge centipede demon.

When Kagome crawls out of the well, she isn't in Tokyo anymore; she's in fuedal Japan! She calls for her family members, yet there seems to be nobody around. She catches a glimpse of the shrine's sacred tree in the distance. She runs through the brush to it, figuring she's almost home (she still hadn't figured out where, or more importantly, when, she was).

Upon reaching the tree, Kagome looks up and gawks. A boy, who looks to be about 17-18 years old, is pinned to the tree by an arrow. Kagome crawls up to him, asking him if he's okay. Not hearing an answer, Kagome looks him over. Upon spotting a pair of dog ears on his head, Kagome reaches up to touch them. She tweaks them a couple of times before she is found by men from a nearby village, who promptly shoot arrows at her, of course.

Before she knows it, Kagome is in the village, tied up and placed in an opening for people to stare at her. Some of the people comment on her clothing (she's wearing her school uniform), how she could be a spy, or if she's a fox demon in disguise. An old woman in priestess clothing walks over to Kagome. She pulls something (salt, grain?) out of a pouch she has, and starts to throw it in Kagome's face. Kagome, angered by how she's being treated, finally blows up. She screams at the old woman, who stops, voicing her reports of a demon that was found in the Inuyasha Forest. Kaede, the priestess, stops to look at Kagome's face and notices a likeness to that of her deceased older sister, Kikyou.

Later that night, as Kaede is feeding Kagome, a commotion is heard outside. Running out to see what the noise is about, Kaede and Kagome are greeted with the sight of a centipede demon, the same one that pulled Kagome into the well!

The demon demands that they give her the Shikon no Tama (Jewel of Four Souls). Kaede, suprised to hear the demon speak of the jewel that was burned along with her sister's body fifty years ago, asks Kagome if she knows anything about it. Kagome says she doesn't know anything about it, but she knows that demon is after her (the demon knows Kagome has the jewel).

Kagome, frightened for the villagers' lives, runs off alone, knowing the demon will follow her, to the Inuyasha Forest. Almost there, the demon attacks her, and Kagome flies and lands right in front of the boy pinned to the great tree.

The boy, having been awakened by Kagome's scent, calls to her, calling her Kikyou and saying that she should be able to handle Mistress Centipede if she was able to kill him. Kagome is confused at him calling her Kikyou, but sits up to tell him her real name. However, before she can say her name, she is attacked by the demon again. The villagers rescue her, dragging the demon away from Kagome, and the boy again comments on how she shouldn't pretend to be so weak.

This time, Kagome gets right in his face, telling him she's not this "Kikyou" person he thinks she is. He snaps back that nobody else would have the scent he smells on her, then stops to sniff her again. Maybe not, he says. Kagome finally tells him her name only for the boy to say that Kikyou seemed smarter and more beautiful than Kagome. Kagome, outraged by this, has no time to reply as the demon has recovered and is now trying to pull her away from the boy. Kagome, however, has other ideas, and latches on to the boy's long silver hair.

Kagome screams for the demon to let her go, and the boy screams at her to let him go. Kagome turns to push the demon away, and the centipede monster is thrown back by a mysterious power Kagome seems to have. Kagome falls to the ground as the arms of the demon fall to the ground in front of her and start to smolder. She questions this power just as a spot under her shirt starts to glow. The demon swoops in for another attack, this time latching on to Kagome's side with her teeth and throwing her through the air. Kagome catches a glimpse of a brightly colored jewel that is flying through the air with her.

She lands on the ground, the jewel rolling to a stop behind her. The boy, still pinned to the tree, screams for Kagome to give him the jewel and to be quick about it. Before she can even reach for the jewel, the demon crushes Kagome to the tree, against the boy, with her tail. After some cocky remarks from the boy to the demon, Kagome figures out that this boy is a half-demon.

The centipede demon leans down to take the jewel lying on the ground into her mouth, swallowing it. The boy curses her loudly as the demon's human skin pops off, leaving her covered with black skin and glowing eyes. The boy quietly asks Kagome if she can remove the arrow in his chest that is pinning him to the tree. Kaede, who is among the villagers at the scene, screams for Kagome not to free the Inuyasha.

The boy, whose name we now know is Inuyasha, yells at Kaede, calling her an old woman and asking her if she wants to be food for the demon after she has completely absorbed the sacred jewel. He then turns to look at Kagome and asks her if she wants to die. Kagome, determined now, reaches up to the arrow in his chest and pulls it out with one powerful yank. The arrow disappears into the air, and Inuyasha begins to emanate power.

Inuyasha, now free from his confinement, starts laughing hysterically. The demon looks up and, seeing that he is freed, panics. Kagome is thrown back as Inuyasha leaps from the tree, out of the demon's grasp, to attack. He easily slices the demon in half with his claws and pieces of the centipede's body are strewn everywhere.

Kagome is told by Kaede of the demon's power to regenerate if the jewel is still embedded in its body. Kagome finds the jewel, pulls it from the demon's body, and asks why she would have such a thing hidden in her body. Inuyasha interupts her thoughts as he commands for her to give him the jewel. Kagome is horrified. 'Isn't he supposed to be the hero?' she thought.
