About

Sohma Hatsuharu and Sohma Akito are two characters from the series. If you've read or seen any of Fruits Basket you probably know the story is in large parts about the Sohma family who are cursed. Certain members when touched by the opposite sex turn into one of the animals of the Chinese Zodiac. Haru is the ox/cow and Akito is the 'god' of the juunishi. She is not a terribly loving or merciful god to the juunishi and as such one could say most of them have some type of rival tone to their relationship with her. To really explain what makes the rivalry between Haru and Akito stand out for me so much and why I named the fanlisting Breaking Point I need to give some backstory.

First some Akito character traits that are important to note for this fanlisting. A large part of why Akito is the way she is can probably be laid at the feet of Ren, her mother. She is cruel and quite out of her mind and as such never treated Akito in a way one would expect a mother to. Akito developed an intense hatred for women and things relating to them. She also seems to not want any of her juunishi to find love or happiness, especially with each other (perhaps Shigure would be the one noteable exception (well as long as his love involves her) - I'd have said Kureno may also be at one point, but chapter 118 kills that thought for the most part).

Now onto some important Haru info. Haru is in love with (and was/is dating) Sohma Isuzu (Rin), the horse. At one point Rin breaks up with him in an attempt to protect him from Akito (she knows Akito will not deal well with the news they are in love and together). Rin was correct in assuming Akito would flip out. When Akito finds out she is out for blood and Rin takes all the blame herself, letting Akito think she tempted Haru. In reality, Haru is the one who actively pursued the relationship and talked Rin into bed when she was being reluctant because of Akito (er that probably sounds a tad trite, they both deeply love each other and I adore their relationship, I just want to make it clear that Rin takes all the blame, when she isn't singularly at fault at all, because she loves Haru so much). Akito ends up chopping off Rin's beautiful long hair and pushes her out a window.

Now we come into chapter 105 which is what made me feel a strong need to create this fanlisting. I find it shocking noone had already after that chapter. Haru is more than upset when he find out what has happened to Rin. He turns black (Haru having two sides to his personality - one being easy going; the other extremely dangerous) and wants to kill Akito. He confronts her and if Kureno hadn't stepped in may have harmed her seriously. As he is confronting her he flashed to memories he has of Rin. At the end he stalked off, harming the wall more than Akito and goes to rescue Rin (Kureno tells him where she is being kept) and Akito is left to vent at Kureno. As one may have gleamed already, I called this fanlisting Breaking Point because Haru reaches his in this chapter after learning what has happened to his love. I find this rivalry between Akito and Haru extremely interesting and if you adore it as much as I do, I hope you'll join :)
