Emma Woodhouse is the main character in Jane Austen's wonderful novel Emma, which has been adapted into many film and tv movie versions over the years. Emma has always been my favorite Jane Austen work. It is a wonderful romantic comedy and the element that has also kept it in my heart is, the main character, Emma. I think it's hard to not love Emma, whose heart is always in the right place, even if it leads to some mishaps and hurt feelings along the way.

Emma Woodhouse is a wealthy young English woman living in the Regency Period. She keeps herself entertained by meddling into the lives and affairs of her friends as a mathmacker. In her opinion, nothing is as sastifying as a good match and she prides herself on being able to make them. Despite her talent as a matchmaker, she herself vows to remain single. She often may speak and act in a spoiled way due to her upbring, but she always has her heart in the right place (even if it is often misguided). When Jane Fairfax enters Emma's life, she starts to rethink her vow to never marry and looks at Mr. Knightly (her longtime good friend, who is the only person in her life constantly correcting her and calling her to task) in a new way. Could her jealousy at the thought of Mr. Knightly and Jane be a sign that she has more than feelings of friendship for her longtime friend?
